My Breast Milk has Over Run the Freezer!

A challenge unknown to me was trying to fit food and frozen breast milk into the freezer together. It was either one or the other, no way could I get both in there!
Randomly stumbling around the web I happened upon this mom who found the perfect solution! It was years ago and I’m sorry I cannot provide proper credit to her but I greatly appreciate her insight. Did I mention that it’s cheap and easy! Oh and the milk thaws very fast!
Ok first thing head to the dollar store or whoever else provides these!

Ordinary gift bags about the typical medium size I would say? If it’s too large or small it doesn’t work out quite right.
Next cut out a skinny rectangle on one of the narrow sides of the bag at the bottom.

Now the easiest part, take a bag like such…

Fill it up and mark the date. Lay it down flat inside the gift bag through the original top opening! When frozen it looks like this!

The beauty here is that slit you made is how you pull out your little frozen bag of gold! Every time you fill a new milk bag just lay it flat into the gift bag opening at the top! Every time you need to thaw a milk bag just slide one out through that slit at the bottom. You are always choosing the oldest bag this way and never guessing or checking labels to be sure you are in proper rotation.

Now that your milk bag is frozen flat it takes much less time for the milk to thaw out because it’s thinner. The bottles we had before took way to long and some was very warm while other pieces were slushie.
I hope this helps you have a little more relaxation by worrying over one less item on your list of mommyhood. Dad also helped me pour, zip, label and freeze them which was awesome!
