Cloth takes
work right? Yes, honestly truly yes. What I found is that everything with
children is but you will be amazed at how quickly life with children becomes
normal routine. Whether this is your first baby or your tenth every addition
adds more work. Before I knew it changing diapers, extra laundry, and placing
and retrieving children in a car seat become second nature. If you choose
breastfeeding it has up and downs, just like bottle feeding. The same goes with
cloth versus disposable. When it comes down to it for some you are choosing
what cons you don’t mind dealing with compared to others. Some comparisons I
have had personal experience with.
Breastfeeding it’s never beyond arms reach,
perfect temperature all the time, and you know exactly what’s in it because it’s
made from what you consume. Cost effective, you don’t buy formula, bottles, a
cleaning brush. Less to tote around in a diaper bag and you can’t forget to
take your breasts with you! The main issue that I see is feeling like being
permanently attached to your baby, stress that you can’t get anything done,
milk supply, latch issues, medical conditions. It kind of feels like spend tons
more money, or grit your teeth and refuse to give up until you make
breastfeeding work? Don’t fret talk to breastfeeding support professionals.
With perseverance it all works out as long as you keep trying. I sadly didn’t dig
in. I caved under the belief that who I asked for help knew what they were
talking about. Don’t listen! Ask for help from breastfeeding professionals! La
Leche League or forums specifically for breastfeeding on Facebook. Sadly
doctors are not informed very well in the area of breastfeeding, they just
check your baby’s weight and go from there. As far as specifics they stink.
Cloth diapers, yes laundry, yes poop, yes some
do experience issues with cloth. Don’t worry, dig in your heels and talk to
cloth diaper professionals like MyClothLove! Laundry can be done as much as
every day or twice a week. It depends on how you store them when dirty, how big
your washer is, and your diaper stash size. Live in an apartment? Find a
portable washer and/or dryer! Bought mine second hand on Craigslist best
product ever bought. The poop? Did you know that by law you are required to
dump the poop whether in cloth or disposable into the toilet? The feces end up
in the landfill, and leaches into the ground ending in the water supplies. Can
you imagine all those dirty disposables leaking into your water?! Two ways to clean off your diapers is either
to buy biodegradable diaper liners, much like dryer sheets minus any chemicals,
you trash or wash the wet ones and flush or toss the poopy ones, takes only a
second. The other way is to buy a diaper sprayer preferably with water pressure
settings; very easy to attach to the toilet any one can do it. Simply rinse the
diaper, and toss into your cloth receptacle.
The
number one most important thing with cloth is to start with a cloth diaper safe
detergent! Then be sure you are using the correct amount, and rinse them well. Leading
cause of issues is improper wash routine! Second one is absorbency levels.
Research soaker materials and determine if your child is a super soaker, heavy
wetter, average, or light. Having the right fabric to catch these styles of wetter’s
is crucial. Last a good fit. Once you have perfected your cloth diapering
system it will become very addicting! Chances are you’re already hooked!
Disposable diapers were awful in our
household. Both my children wore a combination of cloth and disposable at
different points in their life. Disposables plagued us with rashes, leaks
everywhere all the time, and blow out laundry. Why is it with ‘sposies you are recommended
to change your baby every two hours but yet it’s ok to keep them in that very
same diaper with the same exact absorbency level overnight? Hhhmm? Yes some devoted cloth mama’s use them when
traveling mostly from not knowing how accessible cloth is while on the go.
Leaky ‘sposies caused, buying many rash
creams, switching brands to combat rashes, mountains of laundry from blankets,
car seats, scrubbing floors, bathing the baby. A load of laundry a day was no
big deal at all, coupled with lots of stress and money saved. The added bonus
of feeling proud to use something environmentally friendly and adorable was a winner!
When the stars align I choose breastfeeding
when I can, and cloth diapers for a stress free, money saving, easier life.
Seems silly to some but truly those two are a lot less stress, and trouble.
What way does
cloth make life easier for you?
